Keeping Up With The Kardashians: The End Of An Era?

After 20 seasons and 14 years...

Keeping up with the Kardashians has come to an end.

The footprint this show has left behind is second to none...because whether you like them or not, you have heard the Kardashian name. You would have to be living under rock to not know this family. From explosive arguments and crazy scandals to iconic quotes and touching family moments, we cannot deny the impact that this show has left behind.

Their influence on pop culture is immense: but is this influence positive or damaging?

The Kardashians have mastered the art of ‘being famous for being famous’ and made millions off of it.

....And I'm not mad.

The show birthed their emergence into pop culture and ever since, their influence has not stopped. Some would call the females of the family mere reality stars, but I see them as businesswomen. The Kardashians took full advantage of their popularity and have made it into an empire through their many business ventures and powerful Instagram presences

....Again, I can’t be mad.

However what I am mad about is the negative impact they have had on contemporary beauty standards.

The Kardashian-Jenner sisters are known for their curvy figures, snatched waists and lip fillers. A lot of their surgical enhancements have been denied for years… as if Kim expects us to believe her bum is ‘home grown’...

In addition to the cosmetic surgery they also 'allegedly' edit their photos.

This has led to many young girls and women trying to reach unrealistic and unattainable standards of beauty. They promote slimming teas and other unhealthy products all whilst photoshopping their images and getting cosmetic surgery behind the scenes. Can someone please make it make sense?

Additionally, the family is infamous for appropriating Black culture and Black-fishing.

Firstly, their body types are not even inspired, but copied from Black Women. They have somehow made the curvy and snatched waist body type popular in mainstream culture, but not on Black bodies.

They have allegedly stolen great fashion ideas from smaller Black-owned brands and continue to try and look racially ambiguous by darkening their skin. Lord knows how they’ve gotten away with this for so long!

People are going through pain and discomfort in order to emulate the Kardashian look – more specifically, Kim's look.

Despite all this we have all looked at their pages, gossiped about them and even double tapped their pictures. What is so interesting about this family that keeps them so relevant?

In all honesty I was fan of the show at some point and I won’t lie, the show has given us many iconic moments so I’ll list a couple of my favourite quotes:

Even though Keeping Up With The Kardashians has come to end, I believe that somehow...we will find ourselves keeping up with them.
