Skincare 101: Daytime
Okay, first things first, I have to put it out there - I’m not a dermatologist.
I haven’t received any training or education, so I don't have a professional understanding of skin.
I am simply a skin enthusiast who has done the research and developed a routine that works for me.
My love for all things skincare started about a year ago. My skin has never been particularly bad; I haven’t had any major issues...
I just really wanted the insta-influencer, no makeup glow. Which I am now convinced is most likely fraudulent (like sis, does your skin really look smooth and silky all the time?)
I have to remind myself that a lot of fine-tuning goes into achieving that one picture-perfect skin photo; editing, lighting and even makeup.
As I have gotten older, I have paid more attention to what I put on my skin. We have come a long way from scrubbing with body soap and slapping on Vaseline...
My simple 4-step daytime routine gets me right for the day, and has completely transformed the look and feel of my skin. So here's my daytime routine - easy as 1, 2, 3... 4
Step 1: Cleanse
For clear and glowing skin you will need: clean skin.
Without removing the impurities that have built up during the day or overnight, it is impossible for any products in your skincare routine to work effectively.
I have used the same cleanser since my uni years. It works so well for me...not at all harsh or drying and it leaves my skin feeling super-duper clean.
Step 2: Tone
Now, some skincare specialists believe that this step is pointless...but I can honestly say that using a toner changed the game completely for me.
The basic role of toners is to remove excess oils or stubborn dirt, but they are also a great way of targeting specific skin concerns.
I have fallen in love with Pixi's toners; their Glow Tonic and Vitamin C Toner are products I swear by.
During the day, the Pixi Glow Tonic is my go-to product. Its key ingredient, Glycolic Acid, gently exfoliates the skin to reveal a clearer, radiant complexion.
Step 3. Moisturise

Who wants to look dusty?! Nobody.
Without a good moisturiser that’s exactly how you will probably spend all the days of your life.
By moisturising you provide your skin with an additional layer of protection and boost its luminosity.
I use the CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion, which is light but extremely hydrating, perfect for my combination skin. It doesn't suffocate the oily areas of my skin, yet heals my drier areas.
Step 4. Sunscreen
Regardless of age, sex, race, or skin type you must MUST protect your skin from the sun.
Not only does it decrease your chances of developing cancer, it works to prevent hyper-pigmentation and fights signs of ageing. My sunscreen is the best I have used; doesn’t have a strong scent, isn’t sticky and most importantly...doesn’t leave my beautiful brown skin looking dull and grey.
I usually end my routine with some lip balm, or I go straight for my primer if I’m about to apply make-up. I’m still on a journey to fixing some of my skin issues (hyper-pigmentation, light scarring and visible pores) which I normally target through my night-time routine.
Please remember it’s almost impossible to achieve all your skin goals overnight, but as with everything, consistency is key.
If I can give you any advice; listen to your skin and do whatever works best for you.
